Retina

This labeled (left) and unlabeled (right) image of my retina is not technically "hardware," but rather it is "wetware." The average diameter of the fovea, that is responsible for central vision, is about 6mm, and the average diameter of the macula, that is responsible for peripheral vision, is about 22mm. With night vision adaptation, the pupil in older adults expands to 4-6mm. About the time of my birth, light left HD99492, the dimmer 7.5 mag. of two stars in the true binary system 83 Leo, and and its possible candidate exoplanets HD99492b and c. After traveling 56 light years or 5.3x10^17 meters, the light landed on the above detector, and after conversion into electro-chemical signals, the information in the light traveled the last 0.15 meters of its journey down the optic nerve where the real magic happened.
