long time SLAS member Siegfried Jachmann’s death in 2018 he had been in
contact with the owner of a large refractor which the owner no longer
wanted. Unbeknownst to most SLAS members Siegfried convinced the
scope’s owner to donate it to SLAS. Unfortunately Siegfried died
before the scope could be moved.
It is because of Siegfried's decades of service to SLAS and with the
approval of the instrument’s anonymous donor that the telescope was
named in Siegfried’s honor.
In the anonymous donor's observatory, 27 NOV 2018
the afternoon of 17 December 2018 SLAS members Leslie Fowler (driving
her truck which she volunteered for the job), John Johansen, Luke Moses and Patrick Wiggins traveled to the donor’s home, loaded up the scope and delivered it to SPOC.
